Notes on The Law of Success by Napoleon Hill Lesson 12 on Tolerance

My personal notes from the book The Law of Success by Napoleon Hill

This post contains notes on Lesson 12: Tolerance

Organized Intolerance is a form of ignorance. It’s the main cause of all wars. Intolerance ignores reason. It’s a disintegrating force that breaks up power into sections opposing each other.

Anything that retards the individual also retards the progress of civilization.

There is abundant opportunity for the person willing to serve before collecting.

Learn how and where you acquired your philosophy.

Trace your prejudices and biases to their source.

Discover how largely you are the result of the training you received before you reached fifteen years of age.

Physical Heredity: Size and form of the body, texture and color of the skin, hair and eyes, functioning power of vital organs. These are all static and fixed, for the most part, and cannot be changed; the result of millions of years of evolution.

Social Heredity: The effects of our environment and early training. Our conception of religion, war, politics, economics, philosophy, and the like.

Beliefs are formed strongest under highly emotionalized conditions; when the mind is receptive.

The three great organized forces of social heredity are the schools through education, the churches through religion, and the media through its information.

The ideal in Russia, Germany and China has been war. In the United States, the ideal has been to achieve wealth, and it is shown blatantly through consumerism. In the U.S., you don’t hear “who are you?” too often, usually you hear “what do you do for money?”.

War cannot be stopped immediately. It can only be eliminated by education, subordinating the individual interests to the interests of the human race as a whole, through the principle of social heredity. This is done by exposing the minds of the young of all races the fact that war is horrible and does not serve the interest of the individual engaging in it nor the group to which the individual belongs.

How to abolish war: Successful coordination between all of the churches and schools of the world for the purpose of fertilizing the minds of the young with the idea of ending war and strong focus on making the word ‘war’ strike fear in their hearts.

A Golden Rule Society: We must organize and highly emotionalize the people of every nation in the world, in support of a universal plan for peace. This plan must be forced upon the minds of the upcoming generations with the same diligent care that we currently force upon their young minds our respective religions and ineffective educations.

Emotion rules the world. The church’s power grows out of men’s emotions; to harness and direct emotional forces of civilization. Emotions are controlled by faith, not by reason.

We must place the interests of the human race above the interests of the individual.

It is woman’s nature to implant, in the minds of the young, ideals that will benefit generations unborn; while man is motivated generally by adding value through projects in present time.

Those who do not want peace are those who profit by war; those people only represent a fraction of the world, and can be eliminated in power if the majority of the others were organized as well as those who continuously profit by war.

Universal Peace

There’s no better way of influencing the parent than pleasing the children. Attract the children, and you attract the parents.

Allied Armies set aside all racial and religious beliefs in order to work together for the same goal.

Cities, communities, and entire industries can ally together to accomplish a big goal.

Cooperation and tolerance are the foundation for success.

A winner never quits and a quitter never wins.

Books and lessons arouse action that gets you out of your comfort zone.

Think and act with your knowledge and wisdom.

“To know, and not to do, is not to know.” ~ Leo Buscaglia

Educate: To educe, to draw out; to develop from within; to cause you to use the power that lies sleeping within you awaiting the awakening of some appropriate stimulus to rise you to action.

Notes on The Law of Success by Napoleon Hill: Lesson 11 on Concentration

My personal notes from the book The Law of Success by Napoleon Hill

This post contains notes on Lesson 11: Concentration

Concentration is the act of focusing the mind upon a given desire until ways and means for its realization have been worked out and successfully put into action.

Concentrating on a desire requires auto-suggestion and habit.

The law of habit grows out of environment. Doing the same thing in the same way, over and over, through repetition. Thinking the same thoughts over and over. Education requires habit.

Your habits increase or increase your education. What are your habits?

Environment: The sum total of sources that you are influenced by through your five senses of seeing, hearing, feeling, tasting and smelling.

Are you consciously creating your positive habits or following the habits of your environment by default? Are you a slave or a self leader?

Old habits are removed by engaging in new habits.

Auto-suggestion is the tool to dig a mental path. Concentration is the hand that holds that tool. Habit is the map which that tool follows.

To achieve a desire, it takes habit, faith, and persistence.

Environment
– The books we read.
– The people we associate with.
– The community we live in and the vibe of the community.
– The rules in the community we live in.
– The type of work we focus on. (physical, mental, spiritual)
– The country / state / city / neighborhood we live in.
– The clothes we wear.
– The music we listen to.
– The food and drinks we taste and nurture.
– The religious and intellectual training we receive, especially before the age of fourteen.

The elements of your environment have a major influence on the personality and character traits you are developing.

Concentrate on creating your ideal environment to achieve your definite purpose.

Read books that are about your definite purpose in life. Who do you listen to? It should be people who have what you want and have been where you are.. and ultimately, listen to yourself.

Talk with people who have similar goals as you.

Force yourself into the environment of progress.

Concentration: The ability, through fixed habit and practice, to keep your mind focused on one subject until you have thoroughly familiarized yourself with it and mastered it.

– The ability to control your attention and focus it on a given problem until you have solved it.
– Discard irrelevant habits.
– Create constructive habits.
– Complete self mastery.
– Organize your thoughts and knowledge into a plan of action to attain your definite purpose.
– Ambition and desire are key.

The flow from thought to manifestation: Imagination >> Desire >> Concentration >> Reality

Delete skepticism and doubt.

Concentration Creed
I am going to become a powerful ________ because this will enable me to render the world a useful service that is needed; and because it will yield me a financial return that will provide me with the necessary material things in life. I will concentrate my mind upon this desire for ten minutes daily, just before retiring at night and just after arising in the morning. I will do this for the purpose of determining just how I shall proceed to transform my desire into reality. I know that I can become a powerful and magnetic ________, therefore I will permit nothing to interfere with my doing so.

All great truths are simple and easily understood. If they’re not simple, they’re not great truths.

Forget your mistakes and failures, for yesterday never returns.

Organized effort: When two or more people ally themselves in a spirit of perfect harmony, for the purpose of attaining a definite end, and faithfully observed by all, this alliance brings super human power to each person involved. Example 1: One part hydrogen and two parts oxygen creates water, H2O. Hydrogen cannot create water by itself, and neither can oxygen, but combined correctly, they work together as a super power to form such a necessary ingredient of life. Example 2: In marriage, with a man and a woman, the woman stimulates and inspires a strong ambition in the man to achieve his goals and dreams. The man wouldn’t have that strong ambition without the woman being there to inspire him and encourage him.

A deep desire, once planted in the proper ‘mental soil’, attracts everything that harmonizes with that desire.

Think and research about your desire, then sit… concentrate your mind on that subject until thoughts related to it begin to flow right in. Write down these thoughts as they come into your conscious mind.

All of these thoughts of similar nature have been set in motion by others and endlessly cycle throughout the universe, available to tune into at any time in the form of a wave or frequency.

Read “The Man From Maine” by Edward Bok of the Saturday Evening Post Magazine, it pertains directly to the subject of concentration.

Memory Principles
1. Retention: The receiving of a sense impression through one of the five senses, and recording it.
2. Recall: The reviving or recalling of those sense impressions which have been recorded in the subconscious mind.
3. Recognition: The ability to recognize a sense impression when it’s called into the conscious mind and identified as being a duplicate of the original impression, and to associate it with the original source it was recorded. This allows us to distinguish between memory and imagination.

The Law of Association: Record the name you want to remember along with a name similar to one you already remember.

Concentration requires the controlling of your attention.

Practice the memory principles with your written definite purpose.

Visualize yourself experiencing your definite purpose.

Notes on The Law of Success by Napoleon Hill: Lesson 9 on Attractive Personality

Notes on The Law of Success by Napoleon Hill: Lesson 9 on Attractive Personality

How to Attract: Take a keen heart centered interest in the other person’s “game” in life.

– A magnetic, firm hand-shake.
– First, you must neutralize their mind and make them want to listen.
– Smile contagiously.
– Compliment them from the heart: “I just came here to tell you that I think you’re doing the most wonderful, powerful, meaningful work that the world needs today.
– Talk about what’s closest to their heart, THEN talk about what’s closest to your own heart.
– Study your prospective purchasers and find out what interests them most, then talk about THAT.

The energy spent trying to defeat your enemies, if properly directed, would carry you to great heights of achievement.

Human nature always wants what’s difficult to get, or what’s about to be deprived or taken away from them.

Your only limitation is the one you setup in your own mind.

Some defeats are only installments of victory.

Talk with the “you” attitude, not the “I” or “me” frame of mind.

Earnestness of purpose is key to attractive personality; artificial purpose in your personality is detected easily and repels people.

How To Build Character Through Rigid Self Discipline

1. Select the characters who make up the qualities you would like to build in your own personality, do this by auto-suggesting to yourself those characteristics you desire and that you see in other people.

Write a concise statement of the qualities you want to develop within yourself. Read these statements out loud, close your eyes and visualize your invisible counsel, the people who have the character traits you desire, at the table there with you.

2. Control your mind, keep your thoughts positive. Let the dominating thought be the visual of the person you intend to be. A dozen times a day, visualize with faith that knows no limitation, your invisible counsel, and visualize yourself with your desired characteristics.

3. Every day, find a person with a good quality and genuinely praise it.

Put feeling and emotion into your words.

Develop your voice until it’s rhythm is pleasing to the ears.

Speech is the chief method of expressing your personality.

There is no defeat except that from within.

Do you have a strong purpose? Do you have a weak purpose? … or no purpose?

Acquire the habit of the art of being agreeable.

Notes on The Law of Success by Napoleon Hill: Lesson 10 on Accurate Thought

My personal notes from the book The Law of Success by Napoleon Hill

This post contains notes on Lesson 10 Accurate Thought

You don’t know what you don’t know.

Open your mind, stretch it further; to sharpen your accurate thought.

In the pursuit of achieving your dream AKA your definite purpose in life, facts are key:

– Facts are more valuable than mere information.
– Sort important facts from unimportant facts.
– Sort relevant facts from irrelevant facts.
– A relevant fact is defined as a fact that you can use without interfering with the rights of others, in the attainment of your purpose.
– All facts that you can use in the attainment of your definite purpose are important and relevant.
– Organize, classify, and most importantly, USE facts.
– Knowing the facts gives you self confidence and eliminates hesitation and procrastination.
– Accurate thinkers see facts.

Belittling your enemies or competitors is self-destructive.
Are you destroying or building?

Truth alone endures, all else must pass with time.

I cannot afford to deceive others. I know I cannot afford to deceive myself.

How are you going to succeed in life if you are not sure what it is that you want?

List and study the people who accomplish more that you, with less effort; especially those people you’re in contact with.

Use the most powerful tools and systems available to you, in order to save time and accomplish much more than usual, with less effort!

Spirit and/or consciousness = Infinite Intelligence

Infinite Intelligence does not require the five senses of smell, sight, taste, feel, taste, and hear… it requires creative thought.

The sub-conscious mind, through auto-suggestion, gives instructions to and activates the power of infinite intelligence to make what you want appear in your reality.

This is the most important fact in the whole book.

When you tune the TV frequency to which channel you want, you then see the images and hear sounds on that specific channel. You experience the channel you want by tuning into that channel. When you know your definite purpose and auto-suggest it to yourself repetitively through thinking, visualizing, writing, planning, and putting it on your dream board and dream book; you ARE that frequency. Have full faith and confidence that your universe is delivering that specific frequency you’re tuned into, to your real life experience.

Then, when the steps are presented to you, usually in the form of an opportunity, recognize that they are steps to achieve your dream or your definite purpose.. take those steps, take those opportunities with no hesitation; simply take action!

Harvesting grain as a metaphor to achieving your dream or definite purpose:

The Process of Harvesting Grain

1. Prepare the soil to receive the seed in an area that gets sunlight.
2. Plant the seed in the soil, cover it with soil.
3. Water the seed consistently.
4. Wait for Earth and nature to produce the grain.
5. Harvest the grain.

The Process of Achieving Your Dream

1. Prepare your sub-conscious mind to accept an autosuggestion with creative thought and have faith in infinite intelligence.
2. Auto-suggest your dream or definite purpose to your sub-conscious mind.
3. Wait and work for the realization consistently.
4. Continuously intensify your faith that your definite purpose is being fulfilled.
5. Experience the realization of your dream.

  • The power to think as you wish to think is the only power you have absolute control over.
  • I am the master of my fate. I am the master of my soul. ~Ingalls
  • With thoughts, you may create whatever you desire.
  • You can do it if you believe you can!
